karanteen S. Afr.|ˈkærəntiːn| Also -ine. Either of two marine fishes of the family Sparidae, Crenidens crenidens, or the larger bamboo-fish (bamboo n. 2), Sarpa salpa, also known, in Natal, as the striped karanteen.
