The long flattened modification of cilia in some infusorians.

Saville-Kent Infusoria I. 65 These modified cilia are much flattened or compressed, and appropriately receive from him [Sterki] the distinctive title of ‘membranellæ’. 1896Kirkaldy & Pollard tr.
