† mendivaunt Obs. Also mendyfaunte, -vaunt. [f. OF. (chiefly AF.) mendif, altered form of mendi:—L. mendīcus (see mendicant). As mendyuaunt and mendynaunt would usually be indistinguishable in the MSS., it is possible that some or all of the examples under mendinant may belong to this word. In those given below the MSS. have f or v, not u.] = mendicant n.
