Minervois, n.|ˌmɪnɜːˈvwaː| [Fr., f. Minerve, ancient village named after the Roman goddess Minerva (Minerva n.).] The name of a district of the Aude département in the south of France, used to designate the (chiefly red) wine produced there. An officially recognized and controlled appellation, V.D.Q.S. after 1951, A.O.C. since 1985.
