‖ aphasia Path.|əˈfeɪzɪə| [mod.L., a. Gr. ἀϕασία, n. of quality f. ἄϕατος speechless, f. ἀ priv. + ϕά-ναι to speak (cf. ϕάσ-ις speech).] Loss of speech, partial or total, or loss of power to understand written or spoken language, as a result of disorder of the cerebral speech centres.
