[mod.L. (C. Gaudichaud-Beaupré 1825, in Ann. Sci. Nat. V. 102), f. the name of A. J. Pernetty (1716–1801), French explorer.]
A small evergreen shrub of the genus so called, belonging to the family Ericaceæ, native to South America, New Zealand, or Tasmania, and bearing leathery leaves and white or pink flowers, followed by white, red, or purplish berries.
