▪ I. ‖ pes|piːz| Pl. pedes |ˈpɛdiːz|. [The L. word pēs foot, used technically in Comparative Anatomy, Botany, etc.] 1. Comp. Anat. The terminal segment of the hind limb of a vertebrate animal, corresponding to the human foot. Opposed to manus hand, applied to the corresponding part of the fore limb.

(1877) 161 Thickenings, or callosities, of the integument, however, occur beneath the joints of the digits, both in the pes and the manus. 2. Bot.
