phlobaphene Chem.|ˈflɒbəfiːn| Also -en. [a. F. phlobaphène, f. Gr. ϕλό-ος = ϕλοι-ός bark + βαϕή dye + -ene.] Name for a class of brown or red colouring matters, of complex composition, occurring in the bark of various trees and shrubs.
