▪ I. plit Agric. [Invented by W. Marshall: see quot. 1778.] The slice of earth turned over by a ploughshare.

Scot. i. 156 Where the land is excessively steep, it is often necessary to plough directly across, throwing the plits or furrow slices all down hill. 1813R. Ker Agric. Surv.
