‖ assiento, asiento|əˈsjɛntəʊ, æsɪˈɛntəʊ| [Sp. assiento (Minsheu), mod. asiento, settlement, contract.] ‘A contract, or conuention between the king of Spain and other powers, for furnishing the Spanish dominions in America with negro slaves’ (J.). spec. That made between Great Britain and Spain at the peace of Utrecht in 1713.
