† ˈProtestancy Obs. [f. next + -cy.] The condition of being a Protestant; the Protestant religion, system, or principles; = Protestantism 1. In 17th c., spec. the system of the reformed Church of England, as distinguished on the one hand from Popery, on the other from Presbyterianism and Puritanism.
