Babbit-metal Also babbitt (or Babbitt) metal, Babbit's metal. [f. name of the inventor.] A soft alloy of tin, antimony, and copper, used in journal-bearings, etc., to diminish friction. Sometimes used ellipt. Hence babbitt-lined adj. Named after Isaac Babbitt (1799–1862).
