A technique involving the acting out of roles in a particular situation or scenario, as used in psychotherapy, education, training, drama, etc. (cf. psychodrama n. 1); the acting out, adoption, or performance of a particular role, either consciously (esp. as a technique in training, psychotherapy, etc.) or unconsciously (in conforming to an established social role or to expectations of conventional behaviour in a particular position or situation).
