bawneen, bauneen|ˈbɔːniːn| [ad. Irish báinín undyed flannel, f. bán (báin-) white.] In Ireland: a sleeved waistcoat made from undyed flannel worn by farm-labourers. Also attrib.; bawneen yarn, a coarse light fawn unwashed knitting-wool.
