Safavid, a. and n.|ˈsæfəvɪd| Also Safawid. [ad. Pers. ṣafawī (see Sophy1) + patronymic suff. -id.] A. adj. Of or pertaining to a ruling dynasty in Persia (1501–1736). B. n. A member of this dynasty.
