[Corresp. to an OE. type *brécgyrdil, whence ME. Kentish brechgerdel, north. brekgyrdyl: the latter became by assimilation (cf. blackguard) breggirdel, bregirdel.] A girdle or belt worn round the loins; a belt to keep up the breeches.
