‖ scienter, adv. Law.|saɪˈɛntə(r)| [L., f. scient-em: see scient.] Knowingly. Often as n. in the phr. to prove (a) scienter, etc., to prove that the act complained of was done knowingly; law of scienter, the law with regard to the neccessity of ‘proving a scienter’ in order to obtain damages.
