A species of blowfly generally known as the locust-fly (genus Wohlfahrtia).
1913C. Pettman Africanderisms 92 Brummer fly, Cynomyia pictifacies... An insect somewhat like the common house⁓fly, but considerably larger. It is useful in the destruction of locusts. 1924Chambers's Jrnl. XIV. 314/2 The brummer fly (Wolfahrtia brunis palpis) lays its eggs in the neck of the locust. |
