carvacrol|ˈkɑːvəkrəl| Also 9 carvacrole. [a. G. carvacrol (E. Schweizer 1841, in Jrnl. f. prakt. Chem. XXIV. 263), f. mod.L. carv-i in Carum carvi, botanical name of caraway, + L. ācr-is (see acrid a.) + -ol 2.] A liquid phenol, C10H14O, obtainable from camphor, origanum, oil of caraway, savory, etc., and used in perfumery and as a fungicide, etc.
