chaulmoogra|tʃɔːlˈmuːgrə| Also chal-, -maugra, -mugra. [Bengali, f. cāl, cāul rice + mugrā a type of plant.] Any of several tropical Asian trees of the family Flacourtiaceæ, esp. Taraktogenos kurzii. Hence chaulmoogra oil, a vegetable oil obtained from the seeds of the chaulmoogra, formerly much used in the treatment of leprosy and skin diseases; chaulmoogric acid, an acid found in chaulmoogra oil.
