[f. shine n. or v. + -ola.]
A proprietary name for a brand of boot polish, used esp. in the colloq. phr. not to know shit from Shinola (and varr.), denoting ignorance or innocence; also in neither shit nor Shinola, neither one thing nor the other; also occas. euphemistically for ‘shit’.
