1960Soil Classification (7th Approximation) (U.S. Dept. Agric., Soil Survey Staff) xiii. 192/1 The Spodosols include primarily the soils that have been called Podzols, Brown Podzolic soils, and Ground-Water Podzols. Not all soils called Podzols, however, are in this order. 1969Buckman & Brady Nature & Properties of Soils (ed. 7) xii. 317 The low native fertility of most Spodosols makes them uncompetitive for tilled crops. 1978R. W. Simonson in W. C. Mahaney Quaternary Soils 15 Direct evidence for transfers of organic matter within profiles has been obtained by measuring amounts moving down from A horizons of Spodosols. |
