A ‘damned fool’ (damned ppl. a. 4); a person who behaves stupidly; transf., a foolish thing or affair. Also attrib. or as adj., foolish, stupid. Hence damˈfool v. trans., to treat as a fool. Also damˈfoolery, damˈfoolishness.
