Forms: also with capital initial.
Origin: A borrowing from Spanish. Etymon: Spanish cava.
Etymology: < Spanish cava (1970 in this sense; compare likewise Catalan cava ), spec. use of cava cellar < classical Latin cava (see cave n.1).
A sparkling wine from north-east Spain, esp. Catalonia, made using an adaptation of the method used to make champagne.
