Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; originally modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: Chinese adj., -ery suffix.
Etymology: < Chinese adj. + -ery suffix, in sense 1 after French chinoiserie, in various senses (see chinoiserie n.). Compare earlier chinoiserie n.
1. Custom, behaviour, or practice characteristic of China or Chinese people; Chinese style or quality; an instance or example of this. Often somewhat depreciative.In quot. 1907: = chinoiserie n. 1.
