Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian coda.
Etymology: < Italian coda tail (13th cent.), concluding passage of a musical piece or movement (1672 or earlier) < classical Latin cauda tail (see cauda n.).Compare French coda concluding passage of a musical piece or movement (early 18th cent. in the source translated in quot. 17401 at sense 1) and German Coda (1782 or earlier in this sense), both < Italian.
1. Music. Esp. in classical music: an independent and often elaborate passage which follows the end of the main part of a movement and brings the movement to its conclusion. More generally: the concluding passage of a piece or movement, typically forming an addition to its basic structure.

Origin: Formed within English, as an acronym. Etymon: Children of Deaf Adults.
Etymology: Acronym < the initial letters of Children of Deaf Adults, a support organization founded in 1983.
A person who has one or more parents or guardians who are deaf or hard of hearing.CODA is often used to refer specifically to a hearing person. The term gained wider prominence through its use as the title of the Oscar-winning 2021 film CODA; quot. 2022 is quoting American actor Troy Kotsur, winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in that year.
