单词 comediographer
释义

comediographern.

Brit. /kəˌmiːdɪˈɒɡrəfə/, U.S. /kəˌmidiˈɑɡrəfər/
Forms: 1500s comoediographer, 1500s–1600s 1900s– comediographer.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Apparently partly formed within English, by compounding; modelled on lexical items in various foreign languages. Etymons: Latin comoediographus , -er suffix1; comedy n.1, -ographer comb. form.
Etymology: Originally (i) < post-classical Latin comoediographus comic writer (3rd cent.; < Hellenistic Greek κωμῳδιογραϕος < ancient Greek κωμῳδία comedy n.1 + -γραϕος -graph comb. form) + -er suffix1. In recent use apparently independently re-formed (ii) < comedy n.1 + -ographer comb. form, after models in various foreign languages, e.g. Serbian and Croatian komediograf (compare quot. 1940), Russian komediograf (compare quot. 2009); with quot. 1979, which is from a text about Spanish literature, compare Spanish comediógrafo (1917 or earlier).
A writer of comedies.
