Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: -phile comb. form, -y suffix3.
Etymology: < -phile comb. form + -y suffix3; compare -philia comb. form. Compare German -philie (formations in which are found from at least the first half of the 19th cent.), French -philie (formations in which are found from at least the mid-19th cent.).Formations in English are found from the second half of the 19th cent. Chiefly combining with first elements ultimately of Greek origin, but compare notaphily n., with a first element of Latin origin, and cartophily n., Germanophily n., scripophily n., timbrophily n. at timbro- comb. form .
