Of, relating to, or originating from Czechoslovakia; designating a person from Czechoslovakia; = Czechoslovakian adj.Czechoslovakia was formed at the end of the First World War (1914–18) from former parts of Austria-Hungary predominantly inhabited by Czechs and Slovaks. Immediately before and during the Second World War (1939–45) the state was divided under German occupation, but it was re-established (between 1948 and 1989 as a communist state under Soviet influence) after the war. At the beginning of 1993 Czechoslovakia separated into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Cf.
