Etymology: < crown n. + rash n.2, after German Kronrasch (1641 or earlier), probably so called on account of its quality (compare crown n. Compounds 1b). Compare Dutch kroonras (1642), Swedish †kronrask (1630).By the late 18th cent. German Kronrasch was often particularly associated with fabric traded from England.
