Etymology: < ancient Greek δειπνο-, combining form (in e.g. δειπνοποιός person who prepares dinner, caterer) of δεῖπνον dinner, of unknown origin.Compare post-classical Latin dipno- (in e.g. dipnosophista deipnosophist n.), Middle French dipno- , Middle French, French deipno- (in e.g. deipnosophiste deipnosophist n.).
representing Greek δειπνο-, combining form of δεῖπνον dinner, used in nonce-words and combinations, as deipno-diplomatic adj. of or pertaining to dining and diplomacy. deipnophobia n. dread of dinner parties.
