Etymology: < Latin dēfix-, participial stem of dēfīgĕre to fasten down, < de- prefix 1a + fīgĕre to fix v., fasten. The early example of the past participle appears to have been formed immediately after Latin defixus, with English participial suffix.
Obsolete.
transitive. To fasten down; to fix firmly, definitely, or earnestly (literal and figurative).
