Origin: Formed within English, by compounding; probably modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: di- comb. form, saccharide n.
Etymology: < di- comb. form + saccharide n., probably after French disaccharide ( P. E. M. Berthelot Chimie organique fondée sur la synthèse (1860) II. 278).
Chemistry.
Any of a class of sugars whose molecules consist of two monosaccharide residues linked together.Common examples include sucrose, lactose, and maltose.
