1857 Brit. Med. Jrnl. 8 Aug. 679/1 In plants, the homogenetic force produced buds (Phytoids), which were either like their parent branch buds (Isophytoids), or differed from it as bulbs, bulbilli, sporules, etc. (Allophytoids).
1861 G. Ogilvie Genetic Cycle Org. Nature 152 Terms to distinguish attached gemmae of all kinds from those detached from the parent stock—such as isozoids and isophytoids for the former, and allozooids and allophytoids for the latter.
