Origin: Apparently formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: electrolysis n., -ize suffix.
Etymology: Apparently < elctrol- (in electrolysis n.) + -ize suffix, after electrolization n., in sense 1 probably partly as alteration of electrolyse v. With sense 2 compare earlier electrolization n.In form electrilize apparently after electric adj.; in forms electralize, electralise apparently reflecting the reduction of the vowel in the third syllable.
