Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin emporeticus, emporīticus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin emporeticus (a636 in Isidore), variant of classical Latin emporīticus of or connected with commerce (in emporītica charta emporetic paper (Pliny)), ultimately < ancient Greek ἔμπορος merchant (see emporium n.); compare -etic suffix. A Greek form *ἐμπορητικός is not attested. With sense 2 compare Middle French, French emporétique , noun (1562 denoting emporetic paper in the passage translated in quot. 1601 at sense 2, or earlier), and adjective (1584 or earlier in emporétique charte ). Compare earlier emporetical adj., and also earlier emporeutic adj.
