Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Partly formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: Greek ἔθνος , -agogue comb. form; ethno- comb. form, -agogue comb. form.
Etymology: Originally < ancient Greek ἔθνος nation (see ethnic adj.) + -agogue comb. form, after demagogue n. In later use independently < ethno- comb. form + -agogue comb. form.
