单词 internation
释义

internationn.

Brit. /ˌɪntəˈneɪʃn/, U.S. /ˌɪntərˈneɪʃ(ə)n/
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from French. Probably partly a borrowing from Spanish. Etymons: Spanish internación; French internation.
Etymology: In sense 1 probably < Spanish internación (although this is apparently first attested slightly later in this sense: 1740 or earlier; < internar intern v. + -ación -ation suffix), with remodelling of the ending after -ation suffix. Compare later intern v. 3. In sense 2 < French internation (1845 in this sense) < interner intern v. + -ation -ation suffix. Compare later intern v. 2 and earlier internment n.
