Etymology: < classical Latin lacerta (see lacert n.1) + -id suffix3. In astronomical senses after Lacerta n. In zoological senses after scientific Latin Lacerta, genus name (Linnaeus, 1758) and Lacertidae, family name (1828 or earlier). Compare French lacertide (1839 or earlier).
