Etymology: < post-classical Latin linguositat-, linguositas (with negative connotation) talkativeness (6th cent.) < classical Latin linguōsus having an idle or malicious tongue ( < lingua tongue (see lingua n.) + -ōsus -ous suffix) + -tās (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix).
