Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin mendacitas.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin mendacitas (early 3rd cent. in Tertullian) < classical Latin mendāc- , mendāx lying, false (see mendacious adj.) + -itās -ity suffix. Compare Middle French mendacité lie, falsehood (1509, rare).
