A form of pectin obtained by boiling with dilute acid.

1849 Q. Jrnl. Chem. Soc. 1 410 Parapectin is converted, by the agency of acids, into metapectin, which exhibits a feeble acid reaction.
1857 W. A. Miller Elements Chem. III. 84 If boiled with dilute acids, an isomeric substance (metapectin) is formed, which occasions a precipitate when mixed with a solution of chloride of barium.
1877 H. Watts Dict. Chem. (new ed.) IV. 365 Parapectin is converted, by boiling with dilute acids, into metapectin.
