单词 minoration
释义

minorationn.

Brit. /ˌmʌɪnəˈreɪʃn/, U.S. /ˌmaɪnəˈreɪʃ(ə)n/
Forms: late Middle English minoracioun, 1500s– minoration; Scottish pre-1700 minoration, pre-1700 mynoratioun.
Origin: Probably of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Probably partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin minoration- , minoratio ; minor adj., -ation suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin minoration-, minoratio lessening, deficiency (Vetus Latina, Vulgate; in scholia on Horace (5th cent. or later) in sense ‘reduction in size’) < classical Latin minōrāt- , past participial stem of minōrāre (see minorate v.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French, French minoration (14th cent. in sense 2; 1955 or earlier in sense 3). In sense 3 probably independently < minor adj. + -ation suffix (compare majoration n.).
