Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin mollipilosus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin mollipilosus (J. J. Audubon & J. Bachman 1842, in Jrnl. Acad. Nat. Sci. Philadelphia 8 316) < classical Latin mollis soft (see moll adj.) + pilōsus pilose adj. N.E.D. (1907) gives the pronunciation as (mǫlipəi·lōus) /mɒlɪˈpaɪləʊs/.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Having a pelage or plumage that is soft or fine; fleecy, fluffy, downy.
