Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek μονόκερως , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek μονόκερως (see monoceros n.) + -ous suffix. Compare French monocère (1840). Compare tetracerous adj. at tetra- comb. form 1, and earlier dicerous adj.
