Origin: A borrowing from Hindi. Etymon: Hindi mogrā.
Etymology: < Hindi mogrā hammer, double jasmine (a variety of Jasminum sambac) < Sanskrit mudgara hammer (in late Sanskrit in sense ‘a kind of jasmine’).In quot. 1662 via French mogera (1659 in the passage translated). The forms with -ee represent Hindi mogrī, diminutive form of mogrā.
Esp. in South Asia: Arabian jasmine, Jasminum sambac. Frequently attributive. Cf. pikake n., sampaguita n.
