Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin mūtuāt-, mūtuārī.
Etymology: < classical Latin mūtuāt-, past participial stem (compare -ate suffix3) of mūtuārī to borrow < mūtuus borrowed (see mutual adj.).
Obsolete.
transitive. To borrow (something that cannot itself be returned). Also figurative. Cf. commodate v. 2.
