Etymology: < ancient Greek νεϕέλη cloud (see nephelo- comb. form) + -i- connective + -ad suffix1 (compare -iad comb. form), after dryad n., naiad n., oread n., etc. Compare limnad n., Napaead n., both also coined by Hunt. N.E.D. (1906) gives the pronunciation as (nefī·liăd) /nɛˈfiːlɪəd/.
Obsolete.
