Forms: 1600s niderous, 1600s nidorus, 1600s– nidorous.
Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin. Or (ii) formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: Latin nidorosus ; nidor n., -ous suffix.
Etymology: Either < post-classical Latin nidorosus nidorose adj., or < nidor n. + -ous suffix. Compare French nidoreux (1611 in Cotgrave).
Now literary.
1. Of the nature of a nidor, or evoking this; having a strong and unpleasant smell, esp. resembling that of cooking animal fat.
