Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin nōn plūs.
Etymology: < classical Latin nōn plūs not more, no further < nōn not (see non- prefix) + plūs more (see plus prep., n., adv., and adj.). Compare French †mettre à nonplus to nonplus (17th cent.).In sense A. 2 perhaps shortened < non plus ultra n.
